Automatic or channeled art often speaks to the artist - and those who view it - as an expression of the collective unconscious or aspect of it filtered through the artist's consciousness.
Channeled art is an expression of transformation often involving emotional need - or collective changes going on within the universe that call to us and need to be expressed in a work of art. It should not always be judged on merit - but on interpretation - the messages brought forth to the artist perhaps for humanity.
'I know perfectly well that only in happy instants am I lucky enough to lose myself in my work. The painter-poet feels that his true immutable essence comes from that invisible realm that offers him an image of eternal reality...I feel that I do not exist in time, but that time exists in me. I can also realise that it is not given to me to solve the mystery of art in an absolute fashion. Nonetheless, I am almost brought to believe that I am to get my hands on the divine.'
'A monk asked his teacher, 'What is my self?' The teacher answered, 'There is something deeply hidden within yourself and you must become acquainted with it's hidden activity.' The monk then asked to be told what this hidden activity was. The teacher just opened and closed his eyes.'
